Strengthening PA’s Competitiveness
The House Republican Policy Committee was in Franklin County this week to hold a hearing titled “Built in Pennsylvania: Strengthening Industrial Competitiveness.”
The hearing aimed to examine how policymakers can ensure Pennsylvania’s regulatory environment, energy policies and infrastructure systems support, rather than hinder, the ability of employers to compete and grow in Pennsylvania.
Testifiers included Mike Reed, vice president and general manager of North America operations for Manitowoc Cranes, Shady Grove; Gustavo Casagrandi, general manager for Volvo Construction Equipment; and Mike Ross, president of the Franklin County Area Development Corporation.

March 25 is National Medal of Honor Day
National Medal of Honor Day, celebrated annually on March 25, recognizes all recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest military award for valor in the United States.
Created in 1861, the first medals were awarded to six members of “Andrews’ Raiders” for their volunteering and participation during an American Civil War raid in April of 1862, commonly known as “The Great Locomotive Chase.” The medal has since been awarded to 3,533 of our nation’s finest, including 19 recipients who have received two medals.
Pennsylvania is second only to New York in the number of Medal of Honor recipients at 380, according to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
Let us remember the gallantry and sacrifice of every recipient of the United States Armed Forces’ highest military decoration.

Honoring Our Women Veterans License Plate
In recognition of Women's History Month in March, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is reminding drivers that purchasing a women veterans license plate both recognizes the importance of women who served and supports programs assisting the more than 62,000 women veterans in Pennsylvania.
The Honoring Our Women Veterans registration plate costs $42, with $15 going directly to the Pennsylvania Veterans' Trust Fund (VTF). The VTF regularly issues grants to statewide charitable organizations assisting veterans service organizations and county directors of veterans affairs. The grants are used to aid veterans in need of shelter, essential goods and other services.
The Women Veteran Registration plate is available to women veterans for a fee of $28. Both plates are also available for motorcycle owners.

Introducing Our Youth to Trout Fishing!
Next Saturday, March 28, is Mentored Youth Trout Fishing Day across the Commonwealth.
To participate, youth anglers (those under the age of 16) must have either a free Mentored Youth Permit or a Voluntary Youth Fishing License. More information about the mentored youth program, as well as a link to obtain a permit or license, is available here.
The following Saturday, April 4, is the first day of trout season. If you haven’t already, be sure to buy your fishing licenses and permits and get your gear organized. Grants Available to Grow Ag Exports in PA
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has opened the latest round of funding for Agricultural Product Promotion, Education and Export Promotion Grants.
The program will make available up to $381,810 in competitive matching grants to support nonprofit organizations engaged in market research, education, promotion and export development for agricultural products grown, raised or produced in Pennsylvania.
Preference will be given to nonprofit organizations with experience in marketing products internationally. Click here for more information.

Veterans’ Assistance Hours Available
A representative from the American Legion is available to assist veterans and their dependents on the second Monday of every month in my district office. Services include assistance with compensation, pension and death benefits, education and health care, plus other benefits. Veterans do not need a membership with the American Legion to receive these services.
The upcoming dates are April 13, May 11 and June 8. Appointments are required and available between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Call my office at 570-226-5959 for scheduling.
